Stereotypes about mathematics and women: sex differences in mathematics anxiety of communication students

Citizens are required to understand an increasingly datafied reality perform sensible decision making and be active participants in society. However, our ability grasp that complexity, especially when it involves data the form of numbers, is affected by limiting factors such as mathematics anxiety. In case women, how they face reading content based on or numbers affects their daily lives, including career choice. Playing a central mediating role transmitting information, journalism interesting research object. This study examines notion students –especially female students– «bad with numbers» through measurement math anxiety 185 Communication students, looking for correlations competency. Results show manifest low competency math, paired high anxiety, which factor best serves explanation results. Specifically, only medium-low values pass test. no sex differences were found competency, while small (with women displaying slightly higher than men) identified. Even if minor this not statistically significant, investigating whether also other fields random sample remains relevant, these results defy previous misunderstandings women’s capacities significant interactions data.
